Quotation--25
"Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair."
Quotation--24
"Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They came through you but not from you and though they are with you yet they belong not to you."
Khalil Gibran

Quotation--20
"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." Lao Tzu
Lao Tzu was a Chinese philosopher and writer who lived around the year 500 BC; and he is thought to be the founder of Taoism. I'm sure I don't agree with everything about Taoism but I like the quotation, and I don't mind learning things from other religions when there's something I consider worthwhile....

Quotation--16
"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant."
Robert Louis Stevenson
Quotation--15
"The best things in life are nearest: breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life."
Robert Louis Stevenson
Robert Louis Stevenson was a well-known writer from Scotland...he lived from 1850-1894, dying at the age of 44 years. He was sickly from a young child but he enjoyed writing--and was good at it--and his father encouraged him.
The above quotation may seem a little old-fashioned but I believe it has some points to make.... I wouldn't say we should never "grasp at the stars," but unless we can afford to hire servants and staff to help with our daily duties we can't get away from them.... And I believe we can find satisfaction and self-respect in doing our daily duties well.
Quotation--14
"Wise men speak because they have something to say, fools because they have to say something."

Quotation--12
"Forgiveness is rediscovering the
shining path of peace that
at first you thought others took away
when they betrayed you."
~Dodinsky
This is a nice quotation that I found, and I was grateful for it.... Maybe the word "betrayed" is a little strong, in some cases.... But the word "offended" could be used, and any offense whether large or small can be forgiven.... Sometimes we have to forgive ourselves, as well.
Mr. Dodinsky is a modern-day person and if you Google his name, there's a lot of information that comes up. Many people are acquainted with his work and quotations already.

Quotation--11
Here's a poem about the value of a day--this day, today.
Salutation to the Dawn
Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence;
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendor of beauty,
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow only a vision,
But today well lived makes every yesterday
A dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation to the dawn.
Kalidasa
[Kalidasa was a Hindu living in India and he wrote plays and poetry. He lived in about the 4th-5th century.]
Would like to add that some other simple pleasures [but not insignificant ones], besides those mentioned in the poem, are the enjoyment of fun (sometimes) and relationships; and the satisfaction of participating and working in a group, and of contributing something to the community or society.
(And some people have to work on the evening or night shift, and their time counts as well!)

Quotation--8
"Man plans, God laughs."
Yiddish Proverb
Yiddish is a language spoken by some of the Jewish people.
The saying doesn't literally mean that God laughs at us.... But I believe God is a lot bigger than we are and some humility on our parts doesn't hurt...!
If you want to Google this saying, you can find some interesting articles about it.

Quotation--7
"He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever."
Chinese Proverb
If some people aren't clear on what this proverb means, I believe it means that sometimes people are afraid of asking a question because they don't want to feel or look foolish...but after they ask and get an answer, they're wiser than they were before.... If they never ask the question, they may never become wiser and therefore will actually be "foolish!"
The photo in this post was taken at a city park in Kingston, Ontario many years ago. For the official Kingston website, go to: www.cityofkingston.ca.
